You’re the second person I know to approach this topic. I’m from Trinidad where it’s not quite the same but in Tobago, it is well known that local guys go to certain beaches or places for what is basically Stella Got Her Groove Back.
Ah did someone else write about it here on Substack? When I was out there I heard of similar things but definitely more in Jamaica and I think I got to know more about this subject in-depth because I was hanging out with the locals and ended up dating one of them too, I write about it in Zanzi Guy #1 but it was fascinating to see first hand because it's just not something you blatantly see everyday I guess.
I agree it is kind of one of those hiding in plain sight things. Locals tend to know more about it because we are around and we see the same guys talking to different women over and over again. I have a friend who went to Zanzibar and she talked about the unwanted attention that she got from local guys. The point being that there is this subculture that sits very close to the surface of all the beauty.
I’m not surprised at all, I went there twice this year first in February and then in March and I was like damn there’s a little circuit here and it’s a little insidious
Great read, Rez.

And no, it is not on Substack!
